Choosing school

If you've decided that you're interested in getting an online education, you should choose your school carefully. Just like traditional brick and mortar schools, not all online schools are equal.

The biggest thing to look for is that your chosen school is accredited. Accreditation can come from the national level, via the National Educational Association, or from one of the NEA's regional equivalents. If you attend an online school that is not accredited, your education and therefore your degree itself may not be taken seriously by prospective employers.

You should also check the graduation rate of the online school. A low dropout rate can simply mean that those people weren't cut out for attending an online school. But a high dropout rate indicates a substantial level of dissatisfaction with the school from a large number of people.

Ask what type of student support is available. In nearly every type of college course, online games strategie there will come a time when you'll need a little help or need to ask questions. In those instances, will that help be available to you, or will you be stuck figuring things out on your own? A good online school offers support from faculty and other students as well.

Finally, if you're interested in taking graduate classes or finishing your degree at a traditional university, you'll need to be able to transfer your credits from the online school. Otherwise, you'll need to repeat required courses, which will cost more money and more time. Find out which credits you earn from the online school are transferrable, and which schools will accept those transferred credits. Getting information on credit transfers will go easier if you know exactly what traditional university you'd like to attend, but you can also check several universities in your area to give yourself more options.
